While some MRI exams of the Abdomen and Pelvis do not require contrast, there are many indications where contrast would be beneficial. In these cases, an additional $300 will be charged.
MRI is able to assess all the organs of the abdomen and pelvis in a single visit. This gives a detailed assessment of the overall health of all of the organs as well as identifying any specific areas that could benefit from further investigation. There is no special preparation required for this exam.
To fully assess some specific conditions, we may need to add a specialized type of image that is acquired after the intravenous injection of an MRI contrast agent (dye). We may require you to have a blood test before this procedure. The type of contrast agent we use has been validated to be one of the safest types available. The entire MRI exam will take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, but this may vary depending on the specific information your doctor requires.
